hi there
i am wanting to add another (2nd hand) Hard drive to our computer as it is running out.
Was given a 20GB Quantum Fireball. I've had a look inside the computer and can work out where it can go, and it's got a power supply and IDE?? cable ther for it.
I've worked out this new drive will be a slave and the other one goes at the end of the IDE cable.
My question is how do I know what is the jumper setting for the new Hard dsrive? There is no manual for it and a websearch revealed nothing.
TIA

porpora,
Go to Fireball_lct20 (http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/products/ata/desktop/fireball_lct20/index.htm) and select Jumper Settings under Technical Specifications drop-down box for a description of the appropriate settings for the disk.
A full installation and configuration manual is available Here (http://www.maxtor.com/en/documentation/installation_guides/ata_installation_guide.pdf) in Adobe PDF format.
Note Quantum sold the harddrive side of their business to Maxtor some years back, {after originally buying the disk and tape drive businesses from Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) many years previously}
Cheers, Babe.

Usually the drawing is on the HDD label, indicating the position.
Or, screen printed on the circuit board adjacent to the jumper pins.
Looking at an LCT 15 GB Quantum Fireball here, its actually on both.
On this one, for a slave its shown as this:
: [] : : . PK = Slave
: : [] : . CS = Cable Select
: : : [] . DS = Master
Note the single pin as an identifying point.
Drive is looking at rear, circuit board to the top.
Also I suspect that no jumper at all may = slave
These LCT drives had a poor reputation, the controller chip failures were quite high.
Your mileage may vary...

Babe, taking the easy way out again!
At least its the same as the LCT 15 after all that.
