reformatting using a usb key

is it posable to reformat my hard drive using a usb key
my dvd drive just **** it self so i copyed my xp disk to usb
key an was hoping it could be done
any ideas

You could try. Boot from it if its bootable.

If it gives u the prompt see if running the install files takes u to the install / setup screen.

I know its possible with Vista seen a whole OS installed in 6 minutes from a USB Drive - not bad.

Found this in another forum regarding XP --

first make the usb key bootable then copy the i386 folder and all its contence to the usb key boot the computer from the key and when you get to the dos prompt type cd i386 so it looks like this A:\I386 i take A to be the drive letter of the usb key then type winnt.exe hit enter xp should then start to install.
