I have an XP pro notebook connecting wirelessly to a router.
I have a Vista desktop connected by cable to the same router.
The computers are set up to share files between each other but....

The XP pc can view, copy/paste & change files shared files on the Vista PC.
However the Vista PC can see but cannot access the shared drive on the XP Pro pc. I get this message...Attached file: permission_denied.jpg (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/permission_denied.jpg) (27 KB)

I have tried all sorts of things but nothing works.
Has anyone got an easy step by step guide?
I googled this issue and there's heaps of how to's but none of them seem to work.

I did get it to work ages ago but I can't remember the exact steps I took.

Have you checked the firewall rules on the XP computer?

I am using Windows Firewall and file sharing is enabled

Are you logged into the Vista machine with a Username / Password that is also identical on the XP machine? Could be a username / pwd permissions issue..

On my Vista machine it has my name, on the XP machine it's just 'administrator' .

Is simple file sharing enabled on the XP machine? If not, enable it.
Also check HKLM-System/CurrControlSet/Control/LSA- restrictanonymous=0. If = 1, change to 0.

Ok, it's set to 0, simple file-sharing is on.
I cheated a bit and downloaded a free trial of a program called Network Magic.
That fixed everything, I then uninstalled Network Magic and it all still works.

Good that you're sorted.

Well thats the main reason why I bought it.

It works when vista puts upp all sorts of road blocks for no good reason.
Paranoid programming going on in MS these days.
